PRE-COMMERCIAL THINNING AND CHIPPING PROPOSAL

This project proposal is designed to begin a pre-commercial thinning and chipping project, which will create a healthier, more attractive, and fire-safe forest. Chipping is a quick, clean and efficient way to reduce the fuels and unsightly mess from a pre-commercial thinning project. It has the added benefit of eliminating the need for burning piles, which often kills leave trees. Chipping is much cleaner and easier on the soil than mulching or mastication.

Dense stands of regeneration will be thinned and chipped, leaving the largest, healthiest trees possible. The trees favored for retention will be western larch, ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine and Douglas fir, in that order. Other species of trees that occur more sporadically, such as spruce, sub-alpine fir, and aspen will be retained in small areas to promote stand diversity. We will leave scattered patches of dense trees for wildlife habitat.

The cut trees over 4 feet long will be chipped on-site to reduce the residual fire-hazard created by the slash. The smaller trees will be chipped when possible, but usually will be left on the ground and crushed as they are driven on by the chipper. Approximately 75 feet along both sides of the road will be more completely chipped and cleaned up to enhance the visual characteristics of the young forest from the roadway.

The initial finances will be as follows:

Initial start- up fee $2000

Chipping package Includes:

Chipping Machine

Machine Operator

Sawyer $155/ per hour

Per acre estimate $700-850 per acre

The initial start-up fee is to be paid before we begin work. Five hundred dollars of the initial start-up fee is for equipment transport. The remaining $1500 will be applied to your first bill for acreage completed.

You will be billed every two weeks for completed acreage on approximately the 2nd and the 16th of each month with payment expected within 10 working days upon receipt of the invoice.

If you would like to see a completed project we could arrange an opportunity for you to view one. We appreciate the opportunity to help restore your forests and look forward to working with you.
